Dorian
was born February 1, 1982 in East Orange, New Jersey. He
is the first child of Dr. Winston and Sonia Scott of
Springfield, New Jersey. Dorian was a very active child
who was always involved in sports. He began swimming at
age four and although he protested swimming for an
entire year, he continued and became a champion swimmer
at the local YMCA.
Dorian
was a born athlete and played many other sports,
including baseball, football, basketball, and soccer all
in which he excelled. He was especially a dedicated
basketball and football player and was named the most
valuable player for both sports during his middle school
days at Florence M. Gaudineer Middle School in
Springfield, New Jersey.
Dorian
attended Seton Hall Preparatory School located in West
Orange, New Jersey. At Seton Hall, Dorian played
football and basketball. However, during his sophomore
year, Dorian was cut from the basketball team. It is
then that Dorian went out for the track and field team
and discovered that he had a talent for throwing the
shot put and discus.
Throughout high school, Dorian alternated the seasons
playing football and throwing shot put and discus.
Because of his dedication and passion for both sports,
Dorian was captain of the football and track and field
teams upon graduating from Seton Hall. His excellence
in throwing the shot earned him All-American Honors
during his junior and senior years. Dorian also won the
High School Boys Shot Put championship at the
prestigious Penn Relays in 2000.

Dorian attended Florida
State University on a full athletic scholarship. During his years at FSU,
Dorian won various accolades as a member of the track and field team. He
was a member of the 2002, 2003, and 2005 ACC Track and Field
Championship teams. In 2005, Dorian also won the Shot Put championship
at the Texas Relays and garnered All-American Honors.
Dorian has been a
member of the Jamaica National Track and Field team since 2003 and has
represented Jamaica all over the world. "He is the current national
record holder with a new personal best throw of 21.45 meters qualifying
him for the Olympic “A” Standard. ". He won the silver medal at the 2006
Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia with a throw of 19.75 meters,
missing the gold medal by one centimeter. On July 29, 2006, Dorian won a
gold medal at the Central America and Caribbean Games in Cartagena,
Columbia with a throw of 20.34 meters.
Currently, Dorian is
living and training in Tallahassee, Florida with great hopes of throwing
at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. |
